I recently ripped a dvd using megui following some online guide (I guess the mewiki guide) The rip plays fine both on linux and windows. I have used the default mplayer in ubuntu and it works.. however my latest XBMC SVN port (jaunty) is not playing the file.

Any ideas why this may not yet be supported, I understand that mpeg4/avc is still under development
