It's caused by MTV encoding their videos incorrectly, which is not tolerated by XBMC.

I don't believe there's any fix currently available. you may have been thinking of this, which is not a workaround a user can do:

i also tested my header theory by changing the
audiocodecid value from the header from 0 to 2 which i believe means mp3 and then then dvdplayer plays the file perfectly.

Hey bro just a quick note to say this is gonna be a great plugin once all sorted, good work its just what i've been after for a long time.

Unfortunately im getting the python failed problem like some of the other guys here. I can see the thumbnails of the videos, search fine and everything else but as soon as i go to play.... zip

Oh by the way im in the UK so maybe everyone who has been having the problem is from outside the US, maybe something to do with it?

I do not know if this will further the cause but this still is everywhere on MTVN and its not only on my xbox xbmc but also on the sleek apple tv xbmc ))--;;

--anyone have a hack that will make this work??

the "python script failed" error must be related to the region you live in, all errors i got through xbmc I checked with firefox and got the msg "can't play this video for your region".

mierdatuti there seems to be a bug only when running on linux. It is a problem when names contain accented characters. It will choke. I am working on a fix now. I think I just need to change encoding of the names.

fixed the bug on linux with the accents. update is on the repo.

also as a side note many of the problematic videos with the static issues seem to be working. we might have to close that trac ticket.

if you find any with static using current svn build then please report them.

there is also a bug with a very small number of videos(i only know of one right now. Fat boy slim - weapon of choice) where you won't get a quality selection and only see exit.

Have any clue if they are working now because of other changes in the code base, or because MTV corrected their improperly encoded videos ( IIRC, that was deemed the underlying issue in the ticket, right?)

Well I tested the old videos I saved and they play fine in the current xbmc builds. These files have the bad header labeling the audio as pcm rather then mp3. so it seems to be other changes in the code base.

update: forgot to mention that they don't have thumbnails right now. i didn't want to use the low res ones from the pages. So I am going to look the videos in the mtvn api and get the higher resolution ones from there.

Thanks for the good plugin

Couple things I came across while playing around with it:

1. Auto Quality Selection seems to not be picking the "highest" quality source. In quotes because I'm unsure if it considers certain codecs "better" than others without regard for their resolution.
-Couple of the songs I tried in the newly added video picks group had a quality level option of "640x360 1400kbps (h264/aac)", when the default quality setting was set to high it starts playing the "512x288 650kbps (vp6/mp3)" version of the video.


2. Special character showing up as an encoded value.
- Also currently visible in the video picks group, artist Beyonce where the final letter is accented.

3. "Browse Artists by Genre" I think is only listing the first 25 artists that are in that genre.
- I noticed this when going to the alternative genre, and only seeing bands that start with numbers, and the letter A.
- Was not able to figure out if there should be more for sure because I wasn't able to find genre listings on their site.
- Looks to be probably the same thing with "Browse Videos by Genre"

4. With the new groups you added in the most recent revision I'm wondering if using a thumbnail icon to identify the network/site instead of the name in parens would look better. Probably depends on what views people tend to use.
