USB Installer / Live Image?

Are there any plans for a usb installer version?

My friend was trying XBMC out yesterday but had run out of CDs so couldnt install the live version.

So in the end installed XP & then the windows binary. He had pointed out he was able to install windows 7 via a usb stick and asked me if he could do the same with xbmc.

I think this should be quite easy to implement, a zip file with 2 scripts 1 for windows and one for linux that copys the files to usb and writes the usb's mbr so that when the PC boots to the usb stick the user has the choice Run from usb or install to hdd.

you may be surprised to find out that it's not THAT easy...

Anyway, the current installer in the SVN allows the creation of a bootable flash disk from a regular Linux desktop without the need of burning a CD. It will be included in the next release.

Within Windows there are at least a couple of things you can't do, such as installing GRUB (optional) and create an ext2 formatted filesystem, the latter being a requirement for a read-write live system.
