djh, I'd recommend adding 19052 to your suggested build for windows list.

Prior builds cannot properly handle analog 5.1 sound. On the other hand, the Ikons builds do not include msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll, which are necessary for Vista.
I guess it's a connundrum. However, if you install the jester build you suggest, copy over to two dlls to the system32 folder, then install 19052, you should be good to go. (Once again, only necessary in Vista.)
