[WINDOWS] XBMC Critical Subtitles Problems / Subtitle Bugs in XBMC for Windows

tbird2340 Wrote:SRT files work fine for you guys? Do they play automatically? Mine don't play unless I specifically select them via the OSD which sucks..

Mine are named the same exact name as the avi files that I am playing..

For example:

Defiance (2008) CD1.avi
Defiance (2008) CD1.srt

It will play if I browse and select the srt while in the movie but why doesn't it play automatically if the file is the same name?

Thanks

Yup... they do... What build of XBMC are you using? Are the .avi and the .srt
in the same folder? Is stacking On or Off?

In the OSD, make sure subtitles are enabled and then go to the "Save as default for all movies"
and click it.

Sometimes, XBMC gets into a state where it just doesn't wanna load subs and
you need to rename everything to something else and it works.

For example, i would try :

Defiance (2008) Part 1.avi
Defiance (2008) Part 1.srt

and see if that works.

I personally don't like .srt as a lot of them are full of typos and sometimes the
translation is done by a fan and the english or french isn't 100% accurate.

Here's to hoping the .idx/.sub issue gets fixed Big Grin

Well, 9.04 is out and our bug isn't fixed. It has been set to a future milestone
that will be reached in 4 years Wink

No but seriously, i looked at the trac ticket and the severity has been pushed to
Major and elupus is now cc'd so cheer up mates! This bug may be squashed
after all...

I was hoping to have it fixed for 9.04 and that way i could catch up with all the
movies i wanna watch with subs during the boring TV season that is summer but
Murphy and his stupid laws still mock me! Laugh

P.S. Yes this is a bump but see how i cleverly disguised it? Big Grin

Ya i remember it working before Atlantis.

What build are you using on the Xbox?

Maybe the devs can look at that and port it to the other platforms.

But probably not because i think the Xbox uses mplayer while the other
platforms use ffmpeg...

Using latest release 9.04

For me srt files play fine and autoload, but i can never get .idx and .sub to show.

Video File: Movie Name.avi
Subtitle 1: Movie Name.english.idx
Subtitle 1: Movie Name.english.sub

have to either use mpc or convert sub to srt. is there some trick to get it to work?

I've been having the same issues with my idx/sub files. My solution until now is to search the internet for alternative srt files. Not the greatest solution, but it works for most of my movies.. I need the subtitles because I like to watch foreign movies with no english audio Wink

Hope this bug gets fixed eventually Smile XBMC is just great Big Grin

Thank You!

XBMC is now back to being "the" media player of choice! Woo-hoo!

I have to go to work but i quickly tested Sympathy for Lady Vengeance
and The Waterboy and it works.

The only problem is that the subs are not centered on the screen. They are
slightly right-justified. But that is probably as easy to fix as the typo that
caused the timing bug.

Again, thank you so much for fixing this! The off-center thing is a little bit
distracting but at least i have subs!!

So the subs being right-justified is really obvious in The Waterboy.

It is less apparent in Sympathy For Lady Vengeance.

When i get home tonight, i will check American Pie and see if there is any overlap
or crash.

I'm so excited this is finally working! Big Grin

I haven't updated to the latest SVN but will these subs show up in the correct places on the screen? What i mean is i have some movies that when i play in other media players will show the subs and multiple lines in different positions on the screen because where the usually subs show up there is movie text and it wouldn't be readable.

Download babylon 9.04.1.repack or get a third party svn build from the sticky thread.

It seems that the idx/sub issue was solved in babylon 9.04.1.repack.

I have downloadead babylon 9.04.1.repack2, and am unable to get sub\idx subtitles to work. Now that the repack has been superceeded by repack2, is there some way of getting hold of version babylon 9.04.1.repack again?

I have tried 9.04.1.repack2 on both XP SP3 and Vista SP2, but no idx/sub subtitles on either machine.

Thanks in advance for any help

Kind regards,
Tomas
