Using Samba through Vista?
#1
After a otof tremendous effort I have finally got my xbmc live machine connected to the internet by wireless. The movies I plan to play are all held on my vista machine on the same router.

Both machines are able to ping each other no problem.
Vista has a user named xbmc with password xbmc added
file sharing is turned on and some folders shared
both comes are connected to the same "WORKGROUP" workgrop

Hoever when eve I try and add a folder from xbmc it doesn't seem to find anything and reports the error "Error 2: Share not available". What does this mean and why is it happening, how do I share my files.

I've not seen anyone else complaining about similar problems, is it supposed to be easy?

Many hourse later, its finally fixed, Vista sharing is a bitch, so overly secure that you cant get in.

I managed to get it to work by installing a program called network magic. Once I had installed and setup the trial I just uninstalled and all the correct settings were in place for it still to work. Fantastic!
