Which Resolution?

Hi

I got a Sony 40W5500 TV with the ATV box and XBMC. I can run xbmc with the atv set to 576 50hz but the colors arent great. if i set the tv to lets say 1080i it comes up but in extremly small (only half the pic). here funnily the picture quality is good.

if i set it to 1080p the screen just goes black and i have to remove either the gui settings or remember how to exit xbmc with no pic.....

how can i get the best screen settings?
