Hi folks ... attempting to do the Acer Revo install - I have downloaded the current iso from the link in the step by step thread ( http://forum.xbmc.org/forumdisplay.php?fid=110 ).

I selected the fixed drive to install on, I said YES to handling this as a fixed drive, and it started-

Then I got this -

Then I started to get errors -

After a few minutes the screen goes black -

This happens on every attempt so far.

ANY IDEAS?

Thanks

Have you tried reburning the install disc?

Sorry I didn't document that - Yes I have downloaded the install from two different locations (from specified location in step by step post and from a location noted in the LifeHacker writeup) and re-burnt each one twice.

Which locations? The one in the lifehacker guide is horribly out of date.

Looking at those messages, they are typical of a failing hard disk.

Try running e2fsck -f -c -v /dev/sda1 on the drive and it will report if there are any errors.

From this location -

3) Addings Nvidia Drivers to the XBMC-Live Installer:
First you need to download XBMC-Live and then add the Nvidia drivers to the ISO. You can either do this yourself with an iso editer (UltraISO) or download this ISO of XBMC Live 9.04.1 with the updated NVIDIA.185_18_14 drivers allready added: http://www.fusedimages.com/xbmc.zip (thanks Duplo)

Yeh that is out of date, however i don't think its your problem. You should always grab the official releases from

http://xbmc.org/download/ or svn or ppa sources. Latest live cd can be found at: https://sourceforge.net/projects/xbmc/fi...p/download

but i really dont think it will solve your problem, your errors indicate a hardware issue with your hd

Quote:The easiest way to create bootable USB disks out of the new XBMCLive (Beta1) CD image is to use unetbootin, available for Windows and Linux:

Start unetbootin, select disk image and choose the ISO file.

Then put usb in revo boot and

Quote:Select "Install to hardrive" from the boot menu. Push "Tab" instead of "Enter". Write "cdrom-detect/try-usb=true" before the "--" and hit "Enter"

works great!
