do the fans run when the ubuntu goes sleep mode? why cant they be completely silent on the sleepmode?
it seems aspireone netbook had the fan issue, too. yeah... its not nettop, but many of the tips seem to apply to nettop. |

stonebat the two fans in the unit are silent when in sleep mode (at least under XBMC Live).

If you are still deciding between the Revo and Ionstar and fan noise is a concern for you, I would choose the Revo. I have seen (and heard) both and the Ionstar is significantly louder.

from my experience, the revo indeed is really quiet even if the fan is at full speed, but only when you lay it down horizontally. on its vertical stand, the fan tends to make high sirring noises when at full speed, kudos to the idiot acer engineers that obviously didn't test their product vertically even while it is marketed mainly for that position.
but I'm ranting again: from an objective standpoint, if you don't need drive bays, PCIe cards, a dual core atom, or optical out (of course you could use a USB plug), the revo is a wonderfully slim and compact HTPC. in the end, it comes to the form factor and extensibility. |
