Is this skin for non-technical people ?

Why is this skin so hard to install?
I'm new to XBMC and although I've struggled a little, I've managed to get a bunch of skins configured and working just fine and then... I come across this one!
Is there a version that can be installed by non-programmers? I've tried for days and all I've done is wasted a load of time - I've read the "How to install.." thread and have still failed.
Can anone give me a hand, please?

when you are having install problems can you be more specific as tbh it's very easy to install as in the same as other skins Wink

You just extract it as with any other skin. There's nothing technical about it. The first sticky post that says "Download" should be all the info you need. I think you might be trying to follow the git install/config to do updates, which takes a little effort, but makes it quick and easy to update later on. If you can't get it to work you can always just download the package.

OK ignore the installing of the GIt client. Just download the actual skin stuff via a web browser

Nope, That didn't work either - it made XBMC crash!

1) I downloaded from this link: http://github.com/djh/aeon/tree/master as in the first sticky.
2) I unzipped the file and put it in program files/XBMC/skin - just like all the other skins

3) Launched XBMC and switched the skin to Aeon

4) Saw the startup globe thing on the left and something on the right

5) Crash, crash, crash!!

Please let me know what am I doing wrong? I'm using XBMC 9.04 - downloaded a couple of hours ago.

OK when you unzipped the file you downloaded did you just unzip it as is to skins.. That would be your problem. You need to copy the directy inside into your skin dir.

The main directory inside the zip will be something like djh##############

inside that you will find a directory called " Aeon Stark"
make sure the Aeon startk is inside your skin dir.... basically

1 - extract zip to desktop

2- go into the unzipped dir and copy the aeon startk dir and contents into skin dir

Inside that djh************** zip there is a diectory called of the same name. Inside that is the following:

/720p
/language
/media
/sounds
.gitignore
skin

I renamed the djh*************** dir to Aeon and copied that into the skin dir

That's it. I cant see anything called Aeon Stark!

ok this is what you want

/Skin/Aeon Stark/ *****then****

these files go inside the above dir....

/720p
/language
/media
/sounds
.gitignore
skin

The Aeon Stark name though can be what wever you want... so you could have

/Skin/Aeon Stark/70p/
/Skin/Aeon Stark/language/
etc

or

/Skin/hairy gimp/70p/
/Skin/hairy gimp/language/

etc hope this helps

EDIT :

one more thing. You need to download the fonts

go here

http://www.aeonproject.com/

Scroll to bottom and select link from this line

For the very latest version, visit the Aeon repository at github (requires these fonts)

select "these font"

put the directory fonts inside your /skin/aeon stark/

so as well as these

/720p
/language
/media
/sounds
.gitignore
skin

you will also have

/fonts

Also, it looks like you forgot to download the fonts

http://www.mediafire.com/?025znmzmdmm

and extract it to

/Skin/Aeon Stark/font

damn, that's what I already have:

C:\Program Files\XBMC\skin\Aeon\720p\
C:\Program Files\XBMC\skin\Aeon\language\
C:\Program Files\XBMC\skin\Aeon\media\
C:\Program Files\XBMC\skin\Aeon\sounds\
C:\Program Files\XBMC\skin\Aeon\.gtignore
C:\Program Files\XBMC\skin\Aeon\skin

I'll add the fonts now...
shame I didn't use Hairy Gimp. Maybe next time....Smile
