XBMC iPhone Remote from Collect3 - an unofficial third-party remote control app
#31
Ok guys this is it. I will pm the winners with a promo code for a free download.

@steve1977

Completely remove the app from both the phone and itunes, then download it again. If you purchased it once already it won't charge you again. You were correct in assuming that it won't update an ad-hoc distribution.

@Evanrich

First thing, can you access your media by going to more-> music sources or video sources? If you can, your connection is fine. Have you scanned all of your media into the library? For the remote to read all of the meta data, it must first be in a properly configured XBMC library. If you do have a working library, what is the version number of your xbmc dist? You should at least be running babylon.

Rand,

It was working fine in the last version, 1.3 or 1.4 or whatever it was. I don't have any music, but let me try the other way.

Edit: I found the problem. I had an old proxy setting configured on my Itouch for work, i disabled the proxy and it works now! Thanks.

One other thing. Is there a way to get wide banner icons for tv shows to show for just the iphone/ipod touch but different icons for on the pc? I use wide icons (about 350x200 or so) for the interface in Aeon, but i'd like to have the banner icons for display on my ipod touch....is there a way to manually load these images onto the iphone/touch so that i can have two different ones? the only way i can see doing this now is to first set all icons in XBMC to banner, turn on image cache on the remote, load everything then switch all the icons back...time consuming. Is there a better way?

That is pretty much the only way it is going to work. We have discussed adding different view options at some point as well. Like a setting to toggle Wide/Poster icons. There are definitely a few features that will take precedence though.

Hi, I just joined after getting the iPhone app and installing XBMC.
First up, this is a very nice and easy to use Media control app! Well done all those involved in it.
Ok, here is the question, I am trying to connect from my iPhoine to XBMC, but when I do, it says it cannot connect.
I have checked XP's firewall and it has created the necessary exception and I have checked that the iPhone app has the correct IP address in the add host setup.
Please can anyone help me set this up please?

Hey Tsunami! Thanks for your interest in the app. If you check out the help section of our website, you can actually find several walkthrough videos to help you get up and running. If you have any more issues, please post them on our help forums.

Have you enabled connections with the network section of XBMC?

Settings --> Network --> Servers

Switch on 'Enable Webserver' and set a port, usually 8080 - the password isn't required.

Excellent app by the way - I download the old version whilst I was beta testing iPhone 3.0 and couldn't use it because if kept crashing. It was a happy day when I saw it pop up on my iphone updates the other day Smile

Thanks for the help!
Thats working (almost) now, I can remote control XBMC from within the wifi network just fine, but I when I tried to set up the 3G access it failed. I am guessing that this is due to my router needing to be set up with port forwarding etc.
Unfortunately, it is so long since I accessed my router (if it aint broken, don't fix it Smile ) that I have forgotten the login so this will have to wait.
However, when I use any of the buttons along the bottom of the iPhone app, XBMC reports "No media".
I have set up media sources for Music and Video, but when I want to play content in XBMC from these I have to nav through to individual folders before I can play files.
I am guessing that I have missed something here...
Thanks again for your help!

Hey Tsunami! In the future, please post help requests on our forums. That will keep this thread from getting to twisted Wink Now to answer some questions.

We have actually automated the process of setting up 3g/Edge access. All you have to do is go to settings and edit your host. Then choose Auto Setup under the Away from Home 3g section. It will use Upnp to automatically configure setup for you, no port-forwarding required.

The reason you are getting the "no media" message is because you have not set up a proper XBMC library. Simply adding folders to the music and video sources is not the same as creating a library. You need to set the content on each of the folder and then scan them into the XBMC library. This is how we get all of the Meta-Data to display on the device. You can find out more about the XBMC library here.

Hi Tsunami.

Stuning apps, gratz!

It works well at home, when i'm inside my own network. But i have a little problem when i'm outside.

I explain:
- my xbmc http server is on port 8080 in local
- I don't open 8080 port in the outside world
- I have an http server on the same server as xbmc , open outside on port 80
- this http srver use mod_proxy to proxify the http://myserverdomain.com/xbmc request to the localhost server: http://localhost:8080 ( the xbmc admin ).

It works fine if i use my browser from outside and giving the http://Myserverdomain.com/xbmc , i can see the xbmc http interface.

By the way, if I setup your apps in the "Away from home part":

Host/ip: myserverdomain.com/xbmc

Port: 80

It don't find media.

Could it be possible to add a new parameter in the conf screen, to set a folder path within the ip ?

Cheers.

Have you tried using the autosetup? You don't have to open port 8080 to the outside world.
