And what have I missed, described the error, said it's ubuntu 9.04, from where I installed the app, what video card I have, what else should I put?
I installed it with apt-get after adding and signing sources. I have nvidia accelerated driver, version 180. The app, when I start it, displays the screen for a second and aborts. I believe the reason can be found in the copy of terminal output I put in the previous post.
Didn't see any similar problems somewhere on the net. Just problems with ATI drivers.

You missed about everything important for a developer to see what could be causing your troubles. Go read the sticky again and then provide the following: a debug log, a gdb backtrace - both on a service like pastebin please, don't spam the forums with log output.

Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.

What Al meant is provide a FULL debug log on pastebin...not some snippets directly in the post. We don't even know which version you're running.

I apologize, I thought debug log and terminal output were the same thing.
So my xbmc.log should be here:

hm, and here Smile as you prefer http://pastebin.com/m41ce313b

Unfortunately, I don't see anything strange in the logs.. Sad I'm about to go find alternatives to this...

Please search. Pretty sure this has been covered before.

Check your /etc/nsswitch.conf.

Remove the wins in there. This isn't a bug with XBMC. But you are more than welcome to use something else with that attitude.

I have a short fuse. Often blurt out stuff and later regret it. Sorry. But when applications that are said to be stable break on a clean system and a fresh instalation I tend to get a bit nervous, as the reason I formated my Vista partition and put Linux (again), for my would me media/file/application/web/sql home server station...

I managed to get everything but this working, Apache, Mysql, samba server, webmin. Everything but this, and I want it. SO SORRY, PLEASE HELP ME Frown

I actually put wins in there to make samba work with names. Will try to remove it if you say it could help. I searched for a similar problem, but couldn't find anything that would help me. Believe me I search first, and hate to ask for help as I know how it ends up...Oo I'm talking too much... grrr...Angry

Report back after removing wins. Should work after that. Search google and you'll see other programs exhibit the same crashes due to that.
