HTPC Config overkill or not
#1
Currently I am configuring a new XBMC system. Mani goal is to have a system which is M-ITX and has enough power to play ALL different formats there are.

At this moment I have an MKV in H.246 format and my X1600 cant play it under linux, it is a Core2Duo 7200 so these kind of business may not occur on this system.

Currently I have:

Part Description Model Price Items Total
Infrared USB BELKIN USB INFRARED smartbeam F5U235QEA € 4,00 1 € 4,00
TV Adapter Sundtek MediaTV Pro - € 119,00 2 € 238,00
Harddisk Samsung*1TB SATA300 32MB HD103SI/Y € 70,50 1 € 70,50
DVD-RW Sony Optiarc*AD-7670S Slimline Slot-In AD-7670S € 35,00 1 € 35,00
Cardreader Infinity USB Phoenix - € 35,00 1 € 35,00
Housing Procase*Noah Zwart, Zilver, 80 Watt Extern CRS3988B-80 € 83,00 1 € 83,00
Mainboard ZOTAC GeForce® 9300-ITX-WiFi GF9300-K-E € 110,00 1 € 110,00
Cooler
Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.50 GHz, 1333 MHz, 4 MB , Boxed BX80580Q8300 € 121,00 1 € 121,00
Memory GB 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC Low-Latency CL4 DIMM (Kit of 2) KHX6400D2LLK2/2GN € 46,95 1 € 46,95
Overal Total € 743,45

The software this system shoudl be running is VDR (PLugins streamdev and SC). This system shoudl dor softdecoding, because of the missing decoder chip on the sundtek and the lack of space in the housing. Therefore the cardreader is present to read the official card.

Furthermore these programs must run under OpenSuSe 11.2 64bit.

The visual layer should be XBMC with live tv support.

In the config above a nvidia board is selected to use VDPAU, which is an improvement over ATI.

Reason for posting is that I think it is kind a musceled system and some people may have ideas of configuring a good system which cost less (no celeron system).
