It would be nice if it was eventually totally supported by donations.

No - they just have to follow the license.
Donating services, sponsoring devcon, and pushing code upstream as they do is over and above what is required by the license, and we're very much appreciative! Seeing as XBMC has the most diverse selection of users/devs (for skins, python....ect).......Boxee would be crazy not to kick out something. We ( XBMC loyalists) inspire the Boxee community to step up their game. LOL
