Also, have you read

and
http://forum.xbmc.org/showpost.php?p=470...stcount=84

Thanks! Yes, I read those. I've just updated the remote. What I did was remove the Apple TV and replace it with Plex Player. XBMC now gets a signal from the Info and color buttons (albeit, does wacky things), so now I need a way to map the "Info" button to mimic the "keep center button pressed" from the Apple remote, so as to get the item's info.

The Apple TV works perfectly fine with this setup. The problem I was having earlier was that using the Apple TV as a device turned off the rest of Harmony buttons. Using Plex Player all the buttons make XBMC react, now I only need to know how to map the Harmony buttons to the correct action in XBMC.

At some point early on, I tried in vain to use Plex and gave up on it so my setup uses AppleTV as a device. My picture in the second post, #84 only tells half the story because I only showed the commands in Play mode. In browse mode, if you press and hold the Menu button, you get the xbmc contextual menu. If you press and hold the Play button on a given title, you get the info for that title.

So I've been avoiding doing this forever because I'm a Linux noob, and building git checkouts with patches seemed over my head.

I finally dove in and I'm happy to say that this kicks ass. Paired with the latest keymap, it's an absolute massive improvement over the default operation.

Thanks guys!

Is it possible to have an ATV (linux pim87 build) listen for both plex and appletv remote signals?

I set the plex remote up which works really well with my Harmony One (thanks to the various posters for all the instructions). Problem I have is that my ATV is hooked up to a slingbox pro so I can access my media when on the road. Try as I might I cannot get the slingbox to work with Plex remote controls. It does have a built in ATV remote control though.

Since I updated to the plex controls though XBMC will not respond to the old apple tv remote.

If this is not possible I guess my follow on question is how to downgrade from the plex remote back to the apple. Sure would miss going from 63 buttons back to 6.

Hi ctawn, i'm a moderator of xbmcspain.com and i liked to use your tutorial (translated of course) in my section of Mac in xbmcspain.

I tried contact with you by PM but you haven't this option in your profile.

Regards.

I can't get this to work.

XBMC Dharma RC1
2010 i7 MacBook Pro
Harmony 880
using the Plex Player in the Harmony s/w
Apple Remote setting is set to Multi Remote (Harmony) in XBMC
Downloaded Keymap.xml the original poster listed on page 1 of this thread. Put it at: userdata/keymaps/Keymap.xml

I am not getting any response at all from XBMC from any button presses.

What step did I miss?

**Edit** I also tried renaming Keymap.xml to remote.xml. Did not work. XBMC.log shows nothing related to remote control working or not working.

**Edit 2** A reboot fixed the issue. Thanks.

Now that I have this working, how can I make it more responsive? Every button press on the Harmony 880 results in about a 1/2 second delay to XBMC responding.

you can reduce the delay between keys using the Harmony software. I believe it's in the troubleshooting section.

I already have it set to 0ms on the Harmony, so I don't think that's the issue. I think it is an issue with the XBMC software and the time it takes to translate the IR commands it receives from the Harmony (or any remote) to what is defined in remote.xml. I say this because when I set up the Harmony to work as the basic 'Apple' remote, XBMC responds quickly and crisply.

No, It's not xbmc, it's definitely the harmony. As proof, try the actual AppleRemote, you'll see that its a lot more responsive. Also, the Harmony software should not have let you enter a value less than the minimum, which in this case, I think is 300ms.
