Can you use a single database for multiple installs?
#1
Hello, i have a giant NAS machine that i built for central storage for my media. I have 2 xbox's running xbmc and 3 htpc's with xbmc for linux. I was wondering if it was possible to use a central database for all xbmc machines...it would be a lot easier if i could....if not i understand...but it just doesn't seem to make a lot of sense for each of the machines to keep it's own database like this...i couldn't find any information about this..thanks

i did search. I guess my search wasn't good enough. perhaps instead of scolding me for asking a stupid question you could point me to the answer

Note, I didn't read all of these all the way through, so some may be irrelevant to your question, but a few promising results when searching for 'shared database'

thank you, i guess i was using the wrong search terms...but that is basically what i was looking for...i guess this changes my question to "when" or "if" instead of "how"

I'm sure most people only use one xbmc box...but for those of us who use it for every tv...having a central database would be really nice. I already use mysql for some other programs i run, and because of this, my nas has mysql running anyways, so i guess i'll just file it under "would be nice"

One possible solution is to use one of the supplemental scrapers, (or XBMC's export library function) to save all the relevant info (thumbs, .nfo files, fanart) along side your files so that no matter which XBMC you are using, they are all pulling the exact same data. Of course, I'm mostly talking about movies here...
