Well, I should add that my collection is reaally small. Only about 300 music albums and 65 movies.
The trailers, uhhhm... http://www.davestrailerpage.co.uk/ is an awesome page! It doesn't have everything though, so I had to use Google a lot. Some I got from the official web pages with wget or http://www.downloadhelper.net/ ... for some I could not find a decent trailer so I just quickly cut something together. It's cheating (haha) but works fine to give your friends an idea of what a movie is about.
For music, I had a hard time finding fanarts for many of my lesser known trip-hop artists, so I just added pictures that, uhm, fit the music somehow. Like this:
Kind of lame, yeah, but still sooo much sexier than having no fanart at all...
Edit: BTW http://www.flickr.com/search/advanced/ is GREAT for fanarts!

How do you mean? What options and what-not would one select when wanting to find fanart with Flickr in this manner? Seems a good idea. But, some clarification would be appreciated.

Honestly, I've spent more time getting all the images and descriptions the fanart and thumbnails and all that library stuff in place and to my liking than I have spent actually watching the stuff. That's not an exaggeration. I enjoy the organization and setup as much as anything. I have about 160 movies and 10 or 12 TV shows, a couple with nine seasons of episodes. I don't do music in my XBMC yet, but maybe someday. And ronie's transparency fanart skin is perfect for those of us fanart geeks.
