I want 9.04, not alpha 9.11
#1
Hello,

Using a brand new machine (asrock ion 330, one more !), I wanted to install ubuntu jaunty 9.04 + xbmc 9.04.

I've done the ubuntu install (minimal install).
Then I modified /etc/apt/sources.d as below :
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xbmc-addons/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main

Then apt-get install xbmc finished with the following error message:
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xbmc: Depends: xbmc-common (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: xbmc-skin-pm3-hd (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: xbmc-web-pm3 (= 9.11~alpha1-jaunty1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

So I modified sources.d :
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/jaunty-ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/jaunty-ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main

(jaunty-ppa instead of ppa)

OK, the install completed, but with 9.11 alpha1.

With this version, ISO DVD are not working anymore for me (only green artefacts are displayed)
How to install xbmc 9.04 now ?

Thanks for your replies.

Change xbmc.org.list back to:

#Stable
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xbmc-addons/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main

Uninstall xbmc (this is the only option!)

sudo apt-get remove xbmc xbmc-common xbmc-skin-pm3-hd xbmc-web-pm3

Reinstall xbmc 9.04

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc xbmc-common xbmc-skin-pm3-hd xbmc-web-pm3

Green artifacts are due to vdpau selected by default, set advanced gls to video renderer if u play dvd.

@erhnam
I don't get your point.
You mean to change my sources.d back to :
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xbmc-addons/ppa/ubuntu/ jaunty main

which is what I had in the beginning.

Anyway, I tried again, same result, no xbmc 9.04, xbmc 9.11 is installed.

@shassino
I tried to modify video renderer (it was auto select when I was running 9.04, it was working).
I modified to vpdau -> green artifacts
advanced gls -> not exactly same mess, a different one, but no video

I really don't understand what's going on.
With a fresh install of ubuntu 9.04 + xbmc (9.11, no way to have the 9.04), I have troubles when trying to play ISO DVD.
I checked ISO DVD with xfmedia, everything is OK.
And btw I can't manage to play original DVD either, nothing appends.

I mean, it was really easy to install ubuntu + xbmc, no real parameter to change.
So I don't understand what if the faulty parameter/config/...

Am I the only one ?
Are you able to play DVD / ISO DVD with ubuntu 9.04 + xbmc 9.11 ?

No, the 9.04 have been replaced with the alpha also in the stable.
I am not sure what the purpose is with that.

The alpha has its problem as could be expected. I made a test installtion and I have problem with iso & dvd. I did not upgrade the htpc I use of course.

It is possible to force installation of the correct version:
You can compile a specific version.
You can manually find and install the correct .deb. If you used updated the old .deb will still be on the disk. If it is clean install you will have to down load the deb from somewhere.

If somebody could upload xbmc 9.04 deb file to somewhere (like yousendit.com, or whatever), it should be great !

I tried to find it on the net, but I failed (if you find it already on the net, great ! tell me where !).
deb file should be in /var/cache/apt/archives

Thanks.

fyi, I have :
xbmc@asrock:/var/cache/apt/archives$ ls -l xbmc*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15186 2009-11-06 01:02 xbmc_9.11~alpha1-jaunty1_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 20043484 2009-11-06 01:02 xbmc-common_9.11~alpha1-jaunty1_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9962114 2009-11-06 01:02 xbmc-skin-pm3-hd_9.11~alpha1-jaunty1_i386.deb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1522482 2009-11-06 01:02 xbmc-web-pm3_9.11~alpha1-jaunty1_i386.deb

no more 9.04 on my machine

I met the same problem ( DVD iso menu ) on asrock ion 330, now I use 9.04 Live in USB thumb, and wait for the "fixed" stable 9.11 release.

i just came on here asking how i "downgrade".

sometimes ill try out a product in alpha or beta stages just to try out the new thing and i usually have no problem with it, but i upgraded to 9.11 and it constantly freezes on me.

now when i try reinstalling xbmc it grabs 9.11 automatically.

Fortunately, I had one machine that still had 9.04 on it, so I just archived /usr/share/xbmc and un-archived it over the top of the 9.11 installation.

FYI, I did make a copy of the 9.11 tvdb.xml in the system/scrapers/video directory so I could copy it back and get the updated images URLs...

9.04 is still in the repo, select a previous version in synaptic or force a previous version with aptitude.

#aptitude
Pick the package in aptitude, then press "v" for version and select the version of the package you like to replace and "+" to mark it for installation. Then go.
