Issue
When watching video files (such as the ones detailed above) XBMC often freezes at the very end of the video; it wont respond to any remote control commands, and (as I have no mouse/keyboard attached) I have to reboot the machine by holding the power button or perform a 'kill -9' via an SSH session.

Although the fault does not occur every time I watch such video files, it's most commonly observed after the following sequence;

  1. Boot up Mac
  2. User called 'XBMC' is automatically logged in
  3. XBMC application starts at login
  4. Navigate to 'TV Shows' in Video Library
  5. Select an episode to watch
  6. Pause / Skip-Back two or three times during playback
  7. Episode reaches 'end credits'
  8. Select 'SkipNext' from remote control in an attempt to bring playback to end
  9. XBMC freezes

The debug file linked above was captured following a freeze that occured after the following steps;

  1. Start playback of Video#1
  2. Video#1 reaches end credits
  3. Select 'SkipNext' from remote control in an attempt to bring playback to end
  4. Start playback of Video#2
  5. Video#2 reaches end credits
  6. Select 'SkipNext' from remote control in an attempt to bring playback to end
  7. XBMC Freezes
  8. XBMC wont die for a 'kill' command entered via SSH
  9. XBMC does die after a 'kill -9' command entered via SSH

Can anyone assist? Let me know if there's any more info I can provide or debug steps I could take.

Many thanks in advance,

Fergus.

Problem resolved...

I've suffered this problem for a fair number of weeks, across a number of SVN revisions. I updated again on 17 August (revision 22240) and am glad to report that I no longer have the problem.

I downloaded revision 22240 from sshcs.com/xbmc, whereas previously I'd been compiling my own. It's still not clear to me whether the previous fault was the result of code that has since been fixed or whether there's something wrong with my own build process. Either way, I'm sorted now!

It's also worth noting that the version from sshcs.com/xbmc is actually labelled r22240M, so his build process must be slightly off too!

I stand corrected - freezes still occur for me!

Debug Log
http://fergus.pastebin.com/f797d6ad3

Crash Log
http://fergus.pastebin.com/f2d9f303c

Debug Log taken after a 'freeze'.
Crash Log taken after successfully playing video to completion; crash occurred a few moments after video ended.

Any ideas if it's my Mac set up or if there's something wrong with my videos (all produced from Handbrake 0.9.1)?

Nobody ever replied to this thread, but I'll provide an update in case anyone with similar issues stumbles upon this thread in the future.

After trawling through other posts, I thought I'd try disabling Navigation Sounds. This has totally solved my problems, and although I miss the 'remote control was pointing the right way' feedback from the Navigation Sounds, I've enjoyed rock-steady stability since making the change.

Wow, thanks for the tip! I'll try disabling the nav sounds and see if it works for me too.
