Share DVD drive

I was wondering if it was possible to share a DVD drive through a computer to play DVDs in XBMC on ATV. I tried this last night and I could browse to the .vob files, but they would not play. When I clicked on them, nothing happened. So I'm thinking it will not work.

Also connecting a USB DVD drive, should that play dvds? I tried that as well, with the same result.

Thought I'd ask here if this is supposed to work at all.

Believe it or not..

Go to System Preferences (from the Dock) and click on the Sharing icon...

It's been a while since I've been in that but I was amazed to see:

DVD or CD sharing right at the very top of the list!

Now I'm sure it's INTENDED for the Airbook but perhaps people have hacked it to work on other devices.
