Repurpose an old machine for XBMC
#1
Hi All,

I'm thinking about turning an old P4 3.0Ghz PC into an XBMC machine, and I have two key questions:

- To take advantage of VDPAU, I'm planning on adding an Asus EN9400GT car (the silent one). Exactly what does the VDPAU unload to the card (i.e. with a fast card and slow CPU will I get slow menu's and clean video, or the other way around etc?)

- What's the best distro to go with? I'd like to be able to surf the net, and run a torrent client, but obviously with my low spec, the lighter the distro the better, as I was it to be as quick as possible to load etc.

Cheers!

The menus mostly done with the CPU.

The video is mostly handled by VDPAU. For specific format support see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDPAU

You'll be fine with that CPU and any VDPAU capable card with 512MB VRAM or better.
