[LINUX] Nvidia HDMI card recommendation
#1
IS it possible to buy a Nvidia card with a HDMI interface that will carry sound by default. No requirement to hook up additional leads to the TV for sound. (Samsung LE40A436T1DXXU (LE40A436) TV)
I have built a HTPC using an nvidia 5800 card with no problem producing pictures either in ubuntu 9.04 or the latest xbmc. The 5800 has a DVI connection with a HDMI dongle attached. I have 1of 3 HDMI ports on the back of the TV that works.
I cannot get sound out of my TV using onboard sound. (Headphone socket connection or phono leads). When I plug in a pair of Sennheiser PC 166 headphones I get sound np. So the sound card device in ubuntu and xbmc is functioning, but for some reason when directly connected up to the TV, there is no sound.
Ironically I have a laptop running vista using a Nvidia GeForce 9100 M G with a HDMI connection. I have no problem hooked up the same TV using just a HDMI connection. I get sound and vision np.
