Cannot do automated library updates / deletes
#1
Hi,

I am running XBMC ver 9.04.1 on my mac and i can't get it to add / remove files from the library automatically at start up.

i have looked all over the video setting but am still coming up short.

the only way i can get the files to add to the library is to right click on the videos and go to movie information and then it comes up with the information about the film it is then added to the library.

When i 1st open XBMC is does seem to be checking for something in the top right hand corner as it does when you select "scan for new content" but nothing gets added and the window is gone as quickly as it appeared.

Also nothing is added to the library if i right click on the folder and go to "Scan for new content"

I tried adding the advancedsettings.xml file to try and remove library items which have been removed deleted but this also doesn't work.

Here is what is in the advancedsettings file:

<advancedsettings>
<videolibrary>
<cleanonupdate>true</cleanonupdate>
<hideallitems>true</hideallitems>
</videolibrary>
</advancedsettings>

and this is situated in the userdata folder in XBMC.

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what i am doing wrong and how i can fix it and get it working?

thanks

This really should be in the mac subforum and not the main thread...

right-ish.

try running a MANUAL scan of those folders (use scan for new content from context menu), then pastebin that log. reason is the folder hashes has been saved while you apparently have content that hasn't been added yet. a manual scan will reset those hashes.

Thanks for your help so far Spiff and the rest. I have managed to solve the problem with updating on start up but i still cant get the clean library on startup to work.

New Log: http://pastebin.com/m1f2dbe68

from what i can see in the code there is a line that says

08:30:18 T:2685601568 M:154357760 NOTICE: No advancedsettings.xml to load (special://masterprofile/advancedsettings.xml)

[Stupid question] so does this mean it cant find the advancedsettings.xml?

I have placed the file in XBMC --> userdata folder is this correct?

Here is the code i have in the file again:

<advancedsettings>
<videolibrary>
<cleanonupdate>true</cleanonupdate>
<hideallitems>true</hideallitems>
</videolibrary>
</advancedsettings>

Clearly you can't have both. Give us the EXACT path to your advancedsettings.xml.

The file is in:

Mac HD/applications/xbmc/contents/resources/xbmc/userdata

Thanks Spiff I had a quick look over the links you sent me but all i could find is references to the userdata folder but i couldn’t find exactly where that was. So i did a bit of rooting around myself and ending up finding the location.

For those of you like me who didn’t have a clue the location is:

Mac HD/Home Folder/Library/Application support/XBMC/Userdata.

Thanks again Spliff and everyone else who took the time to post i wouldn’t have solved this if it hadn’t been for you guys

cheers.

Hi,

I think I have the same / similar problem as above.
Basically: I can see my movies in "file view", but "library view" shows nothing.

I am running Vista (HPE)
I've got XBMC Build 23120 installed
My Videos are DVD copies that are stored on a Time Capsule connected via Ethernet (Drive Z).
Each DVD is in its own <moviename> folder.

Here is my debug log: http://pastebin.com/m2b9bbc2b
(it is located in C:\Users\François\AppData\Roaming\XBMC - which is not quite where http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=47124 says it should be...)

Now I have done a fair amount of searching through the forums and the wiki, but I am at a loss.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
