Screen loses sync after a while
#1
Hi everybody,

I have a weird issue with XBMC on Windows XP: No matter what version I try, after a couple of seconds my screen flickers and displays "no signal". Quitting XBMC does not help, I have to reboot the machine to get my picture back. The error occurs in full screen and windowed modes, although I got the feeling that windowed mode works a couple of seconds longer.

Here's my config:

Dell Dimension 8400 with P4@3GHz
ATI Radeon X1300 Pro (Dell version)
1 GB RAM
Windows XP SP3
newest ATI drivers
newest XBMC
LG 37LG5000 tv as the only screen

I tried the following things, all to no avail:
- installed older versions of the ATI drivers
- installed older versions of XBMC
- tried XBMC DX version(s)
- fiddled with the vsync options of XBMC

The hardware seems to be all fine as the screen works just fine in Windows and other media players. It's only as soon as I start XBMC that things get messy.

I have been reading through the forums for quite some time now, but none of the similar errors and possible solutions seem to fit my issue.

Any idea would be highly appreciated!

Thanks, Nils

Hi everyone,

just wanted to let you know the solution to the problem: The ATI's passive heatsink had wiggled loose on side of the card! I reset it and everything has been running fine ever since.

So sorry for blaming XBMC. Wink
