aTV - some noob questions (i searched before ;) )
#1
hello,

i think about buying a apple tv... and i am an absolut noob
in patch this little box

what i use:
- macbook pro with all medias (iphoto, itunes, movies and eyetv)
- eyeconnect to get an upnp server on the macbook pro
- wireless lan
- hdmi full hd samsung lcd

what i want to do:
get all media to my lcd Wink

that should be no problem except the eyetv recordings...
so i decided to buy and than patch an apple tv mit xbmc

befor that i have a couple of questions:
1. am i right, that xbmc is just a "subfolder" in my front row software?
so i could also use front row parallel?

2. i can use different skins on the atv, right? is it also possible to use
the front row skin?
i like this skin and dont want to change it

3. patching and getting xbmc running shouldnt be a problem?

4. the atv is only 720p... is this only for movies? is it possilbe to display pictures (jpg) in full hd - 1080p?

5. how do i get "cover flow" (like front row) for mp3 etc? is it difficult?

best regards

1) no, xbmc is not a subfolder, it's an app that gets launched by the launcher, once xbmc is launched, frontrow gets hidden. Frontrow comes back when you quit xbmc.

2) yes, you can use different skins provided that skin is compatible with the version of xbmc you are using.

3) not for me.

4) don't confuse display resolution with content resolution. AppleTV OS r2.3 or greater enabled 1080p display. You set the display resolution using the AppleTV OS (frontrow). XBMC then uses that setting. Content will be scaled to the display resolution.

5) Use a skin that mimics this behavior.

That's a different question than "is it possilbe to display pictures (jpg) in full hd - 1080p". "without patching", what ? You can't run xbmc without patching.

1080p video content is not playable with the AppleTV. L4.1 profile and higher 720p video content will also fail. There is not enough CPU resources to decode this type of content.

That said, see http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=55042
