Has anyone got surround sound (DD & DTS) through HDMI working on Linux?
My Audio gets downgraded to stereo.
I have a EB1501p (ION2)

About making IR Work on Ubuntu 10.10... i've found that the it87 it's a 2.6.35 Kernel problem. Now i'm trying on putting on 2.6.38 Kernel on my Ubuntu 10.10, so the kernel will be the same as Openelec (working with IR Remote)
Did any of you tried this way yet ? (i mean using natty kernel... i've read that it's possible to put it on Maverick) UPDATE!! 10.10 with Natty kernel (2.6.38) and 10.04 lirc tricks works good !!! By now just tried with irw command... tomorrow i will try with xbmc but i think there will be no problems...

Hello everyone,
I am thinking about getting a EeeBox PC EB1501 to. Does anyone have anything to say against it? -1080 playback works using any of the linux isntallations right? (ubuntu, live cd...) -Does 5.1 audio work? Does it work in linux out of the box or is it a hassle to configure? Did anyone get it working fine? We should close this topic, start a new one where the first post has the info about performance in win7, ubuntu, livecd... the configuration instructions for the remote, for 5.1 audio and so forth. The thread is becomming to big ![]() EDIT: Also, what is exactly the difference between the models EB1501, EB1501p and EB1501u. It seems that EB1501p is the only one with DDR3 ram and maybe a better graphic card? Could anyone confirm this for me?

With OpenELEC it works out of the box. I use it and it works really good. Easy to setup, and easy to upgrade. 5.1 audio does work on the box too. To all you that have problem with the it87 driver, i have some news for you.
I have contacted the lirc devs through OpenELEC dev. And now we are going to fix the drivers so they work out of the box. We are going to integrate them to the kernel and fix all issues. However, to do this we need to donate an asus eee box eb1501P to the lircdev, so he can work on it. Donations will be collected at http://www.openelec.tv the button is in the top menu. So we would appreciate any donation to give the dev this box.

So are you soliciting dontaions for the Lirc devs or OpenELEC devs? and is the kernel patch going to be submitted to the main linux kernel, openLEC or is it just a fix for lirc?

No therionate! This is for the lirc dev. But OpenELEC is giving it to him, hence why we take donations. This will be for the main linux kernels, so if you for some reason dont want OpenELEC, you can still use the drivers/patches he creates.

Hi All,
I got the remote working on Ubuntu Natty 11.04, by upgrading only lirc to the Ubuntu Oneiric version (0.9.0). I did the next steps (this was a week ago, I may be missing something): 1. Add Oneiric sources to /etc/apt/sources.list: Code: deb http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu oneiric main restricted2. Install lirc packages: Code: sudo apt-get update3. Comment Oneiric source so you don't break your system with packages from Oneiric: Code: #deb http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu oneiric main restricted4. My /etc/lirc/hardware.conf: Code: # hardware.conf for eb1501 German / Asian Edition5. My /etc/lirc/lircd.conf: Code: #This configuration has been automatically generated viaWith this irw not longer faults when running it, so the only thing left was getting it to work with Xbmc. It didn't work out of the box because lircd was traslating the commands the remote sent in a very strange way, so i had to redo a Lircmap.xml: 6. /home/xbmc/.xbmc/userdata/Lircmap.xml Code: <!-- This file contains the mapping of LIRC keys to XBMC keys used in Keymap.xml -->I have to make a final touch to it, as some buttons seems to not work at all (the back button and the power button the main ones). If you get it working by changing any of the files, please post it as it can be very useful. Regards underdpt |
