"Moved" media files will not play

I encountered a weird issue in XBMC. When I move (click and drag or 'cut') my movie files from my download folder to my "movies" folder and add them to the library, they do not open in XBMC. When I attempt to play the movie nothing happens. However, when I copy and paste the movie from the download folder into the "movie" folder, they play just fine. This is true for XBMC on my xbox, pc, and mac. Any idea why this is happening? All of my files are stored on a WHS. Both folders, download and movies, are on the same HDD. Also, the movie files play fine with other media players after being moved but not with XBMC. I'd appreciate any input.
