Babylon: lagging video / Alpha: white video (debug log posted)
#1
Hello,

I have two problems which cause me not to have a working version of xbmc..

I first installed the alpha version but everytime I start a video it shows a white screen. I've update the directx9c, but still the same. The audio does play ok.

Since that version didn't work I went to the babylon version. But when I play video here, the video starts lagging behind the audio. Sometimes at the end of a short movie the video is minutes behind the audio.

Since I've read that the white screen on the alpha build is because it used directx now and some older video cards don't support it, I will go on with the babylon build.

First of all some screenshots (CPU at 100%??):

And the log:

For the log I did the following:
-enabled debugging
-shutdown of xbmc
-start of xbmc
-go to the my videos button
-click the source I've added (collegehumor in this example)
-click a category
-click a video
-video plays
-press x to exit video
-shutdown xbmc

Looking forward for some help since I realy want to watch some videos...Smile

This might be of some help to you. Have a look towards the end of this thread they've been discussing that exact problem.

I uninstalled, deleted the user data folder and reinstalled. Still white screen with the alpha version.

So downloaded the latest opengl build from http://sshcs.com/xbmc/ and tried. I get video but again, the video is lagging behind the audio...

No other ideas? Is my processor just to slow??

Kind regards,

Themuzz

Seeing this repeated over and over probably isn't good.

What kind of CPU are you trying to run with and how much RAM do you have?

Log shows you have a geforce 2 mx, that wasn't even a fast card when it first came out.
If the rest of the components are as old as that geforce, your computer is simply too slow, you should upgrade.

One thing you could try in alpha is to set render method to software or to basic shaders, that might help.

Smile Everything is just as old as the video card:

Intel pentium 3
799 mhz
512 ram
Geforce 2mx

I tried setting the render method to software and basic shaders, no change.

So I can't do anything about it?? The pc is just to slow?? Well, does anyone know what else I can do with it? (except throwing it from some height Smile ) Perhaps there is somewhere a light version of xbmc, or other software?

The PC is too slow for XBMC, yes.

You can do what you like with it, but it will not run XBMC satisfactorily.
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.

Those stats are actually pretty similar to the Xbox, and everything about the xbox configuration is designed to run well on it. The same cannot be said for the specs on your computer. Best option: buy a new computer.

Or if you have a PCI slot open, get a PCI nvidia card capable of VDPAU and that will bring new life to it. There's several threads about running XBMC for Linux with a nvidia PCI 8400 on similar CPUs.
