Problems with .strm file
#1
Hi,

Please be gentle with a newbie. I am trying to play a mms stream from my Windows Media Services server. I have created a TestPoint.strm file containing only mms://Testserver/TestPoint/ and when I try to open the .strm file nothing happens. Clicking on the file a number of times just gives me an error message saying Playlist Playback Aborted, Too many consecutive Failed Items.

Can anybody help me figure out what I've done wrong? I'm not even getting a Buffering message or anything.

Thanks for your help.

OK, if there was simple instructions for adding a log file, I'd do that.

There are a lot of people saying they have this problem but there does not appear to be much help. I have searched and read the FAQs, but all I can find is that it SHOULD work.

Tell me where to find the log file and I'll paste the relevant section.....

Does this help in working out what the problem is?

A good way to test streams is using the good old command line version of mplayer (which is basically what XBMC uses behind the scenes). Download mplayer and from a command prompt type (in your case):

mplayer mms://Testserver/TestPoint/

As an example a stream that I know works (at least in the UK) is:

mplayer.exe mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio1/radio1_bb_live_eq1_sl0

and see what happens. If there's an error it's probably your URL or stream. If it works then it's probably a bug in XBMC. I assume this is your own server since the server name is obviously a local one.

You obviously still failed to read through the links properly.

As per the links:

" So what do I do with this thing?

Whatever you do, please DO NOT paste it directly into a forum post or ticket on the bug tracker. This not only clutters said text, but the log is nearly impossible to read like this. If your log file is too big for the following methods, please restart XBMC to truncate the file, recreate the problem in as few steps as possible, then stop XBMC and try again. If it is still too large, try disabling features such as "scan library on startup", which spams a lot of info to the log (unless of course this is where the problem is Wink). The last resort would be to break the file up across multiple posts.

In The Forums

Use a pastesite such as pastebin.com or pastebin.ca on when posting on the forums. Simply visit one of these sites, paste or upload your log and hit submit. After a few seconds you'll have a nice short URL to paste in your post. Be sure to select an appropriate time to keep your paste around when submitting! "

Please pastebin the FULL log, not just the portion that YOU think is relevant.

The full log contains way more information that WE can use to help YOU.

Thanks.
