DTS Warbling
#1
i've found that a fair few of my files which contain DTS audio "warble" (varies in pitch up/down) when using the sync video option (only when set to resample audio). I'm using analog audio output.

It is reproducible in that it happens at the exact spot everytime.

I can't test this in the alpha as sync to display doesnt work correctly.

so this is the DX 24368 build.

That's playing my wall-e rip which I did from my bluray using anydvdhd and eac3to it only has the video stream and the core DTS audio.

If we're resampling the audio then the quality will certainly have to suffer. You could try drop/duplicate perhaps, assuming it's not speeding it up or slowing it down too much.

Set synctype to audio clock and post a log again.

I couldnt hear any variation in pitch that time.

I'll try and get a sample for you guys to look at.

it seems to fix it when i cut out a sample, so i cant upload one.

Instead of audio warbling you get discontinuities, which show up in the log.

should it be doing the same warbling at the same bit in the film? everytime?

then again, it could be my files, but most are straight from dvds and blurays. i havent messed about with them. all of them mkvs though.

uploaded two sample (audio only) which allow you to at least hear the sound it makes. It NEVER happens with AC3. But it can happen when playing a flac track if there is a dts in the file too.

sample 1 - about 7-10 seconds in - http://rapidshare.com/files/306315639/Untitled.wma.html (1080p avc with .flac and .dts audio)

sample 2 - a big one at 18, and possibly at ~35-40 - http://rapidshare.com/files/306316645/Un...2.wma.html (1080p avc with only .dts)

I thought it might be the cpu maxing out, but it happens on some 720p files too.

Yeah, sounds about right, it's because of messed up timestamps.

I don't know any other solution besides encoding them again.

they weren't encoded, they are taken straight from the disc, just repackaged in another container :S thanks for your help anyway. i'll post a solution if i find one.
