[LIVE] Does XBMC Live support MythTV videos - it won't play recorded TV shows?
#1
Question
Hi all

I have installed XBMC-LIVE (9.10) onto an ACERVeriton L-460 - All works a treat..am very happy!

I have set up MythDora and am able to record DVB-t programs.

Can watch them through the mythweb user interface on linux and windows.

Can watch recordings directly with linux, windows, and XBMC-LIVE

Can access the mythtv directories with the myth:// set-up

Cannot play selected recording through the myth:// set-up

Many many many hours have been spent trying to solve this problem......

...HELP.......ANYBODY.......

It should work fine. I'd start by troubleshooting from http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=MythTV#Recor...n.27t_Play

It could be related to the MythTV backend configuration.

If that wiki page doesn't highlight anything then at least provide a full debug log.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

I'm having the same trouble, and (like you) have spent many hours poring over logs.

I've tried both the Windows and Linux versions of XBMC, and both behave identically. So I'm guessing that the problem lies in the MythTV backend.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Please post a link to a pastebin'ed full debug log if you would like help trying to diagnose.

Ok, I started XBMC 9.11 on a Windows 7 desktop, navigated to the "All Recordings" menu, and attempted to play a recording. The list of recordings displays fine, and even the thumbnails, but recordings do not play.

Here's the XBMC log:

http://pastebin.com/m19aa980c

Here's the relevant part of mythbackend.log from the MythTV backend server:

http://pastebin.com/m5b3e0ab

Looks like the MythTV backend isn't able to find the file for the recording. However, it works fine when accessed from an actual MythTV remote frontend. This is a MythDora 10.21 installation that's been upgraded with MythTV 0.22. If it makes any difference, it has two 1.5TB drives in one storage group (/storage and /storage2).

Thanks for the help with this!

Can you please make sure that you include the full XBMC log. I can't see anything in there that shows trying to playback a recording, just a lot of queries to get the thumbnails for the listing (of which some fail because the thumbnail doesn't seem to exist in mythbackend).

Can you please check if the following files exist in the recordings directory on the MythTV server:
2192_20091022080000.nuv
2192_20091026080000.nuv.png
2192_20090828073000.nuv

Can you pastebin another debug XBMC log that includes the part where the recording is attempted to be played.

Also, what does "mythtv.dblhouse.us" resolve to on your network?

Also, what does "mythtv.dblhouse.us" resolve to on your network?

First, thanks for looking at this!

I looked on the MythTV backend, and only the second file (with the .nuv.png extension) seems to exist (in /storage/recordings). The other two don't.

mythtv.dblhouse.us resolves to 192.168.0.7, and that's in the hosts file on the system running XBMC. I originally used myth://mythtv:[email protected] in sources.xml, but changed it to see if making it match the full hostname of the backend system would make any difference. It didn't. In the following example, I'm back to using the numeric ip address.

To generate the following logs, I started XBMC on my Windows 7 desktop, went to the "recordings" menu, and selected a recording. I heard the "whoosh" sound, but the recording didn't start to play. I clicked on the "home" icon at the top left, and XBMC hung for about three minutes before I could finish exiting.

This is the complete XBMC log that was generated:

And here's the end of mythbackend.log from the MythTV backend:

http://pastebin.com/m2512eaab

Let me know if there's anything else I should try, or any other information I can gather to help diagnose this.

I've tried twice to post the information requested above, but my posts don't seem to be making it onto this board. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I'll try later using a different browser.

Ok, let's try this one more time, using "Quick Reply", which seems to work.

First, thanks for looking at this! I really appreciate it.

Of the three files listed, the only one that exists on the MythTV backend is the second one, with the ".nuv.png" extension. The other two don't seem to be there.

mythtv.dblhouse.us resolves to 192.168.0.7, and this is in the hosts file on the Windows 7 desktop running XBMC. I tried this when I wasn't having any success using the numeric ip address. Since it didn't help, I've returned to using myth://mythtv:[email protected] in the sources.xml file for the following examples.

I started XBMC on the Windows machine, and went to the "Recordings" menu, and tried to play the first MythTV video listed. I heard the "whoosh" sound, but nothing played. I then clicked the "home" icon on the top left, and XBMC hung for about 3 minutes before I cold exit.

This is the complete XBMC log file that was generated:

http://pastebin.com/m73c05c20

And this is the end of the mythbackend.log file:

Mythweb can send programs just fine independently of what your backend settings are. For example, if your backend settings are set to localhost, that is what it will send to clients. Post the IP addresses that are listed on the first page of the "General" section of the mythtv-setup backend settings.

Put "0000" in as the security pin.

Thanks, pashdown. I guess I should have paid attention to the word "required".

But, unfortunately, it didn't help. It's still not playing recordings, and is hanging for three minutes when I try to exit.

I don't know the solution then. All I can tell you is that it works great for me.

Let me know if there's anything else I should try, or any other information I can gather to help diagnose this.

1) Do either of those missing .nuv files exist in any of the other storage locations? Do they exist anywhere? According to the information sent back by mythbackend they existed at some point. Any chance they were manually deleted somehow if you can't find them? Seems strange that the generated thumbnail would exist, but not the actual recording.

2) Do any of the files with errors listed in the mythbackend.log file exist on your machine anywhere?

If the files do exist elsewhere, perhaps there is a problem with playback related to storage groups that will need more looking into.

Not sure what the 3 minute timeout is just yet.
