A year ago or so I managed to get XBMC to run on my Appletv. At some point it started crashing and, even though I've updated the OS to 3.0.1 and have updated XBMC to the latest, it still shows the same behavior, as in:

XBMC crashes on LAUNCH with error type 6.
Boxee runs fine.

I appreciate the hard work everyone does here.

YAY! It seems like I solved my own problem. I'm enclosing the solution.

SSH into AppleTV (google this if needed)
delete /Users/frontrow/Library/Application Support/XBMC
delete /Users/frontrow/Applications/XBMC.app/

reinstall from launcher. Hi, XBMC!
