Export library > delete thumbnail cache > no more images

I've been a user of XBMC (Windows) for a while now and very happy with it.
So last night, I tried the 9.11 beta1 version and found something I'm not sure is a bug or intentional behaviour...

Previously, with 9.0.4 Babylon, I would export my movie library after adding new content - thereby having XBMC generate all the new NFOs, fanart, tbn's etc. in each movie folder. I found I could safely delete the cached thumbnail folders and XBMC would regenerate them the next time it started. My presumption was that XBMC was taking the existing fanart and thumbnails from the movie folders and repopulating the cache.

With 9.11 Beta1, if I export, delete the thumbnail cache and restart, all the fanart and thumbnails are missing from the XBMC library views. Oddly, if I open the Information screen for a movie, the thumbs & fanart are all there - and this seems to kickstart XBMC into showing them correctly when I next go into the library view.

Has something changed fundamentally with how this works, is it a bug, or am I just doing it wrong?

Any advice or further steps would be appreciated.
