I have wired my connection and now it works great.

I installed the Beta1 release, updated all drivers and added the network cable so everything is fine running 720p videos.
I'll have to check the CPU load while playing such content to see if I can go on or if I need to configure an external player.
With the network connection now at 1Gbs, the video quality problem has been resolved as well.
Unfortunately my TV is quite old and doesn't have a lot of options. But resizing the desktop in Windows within the nVidia panel does work, although it probably affects the video quality a bit, although barely noticeable.

I don't have the money to change my TV now and anyways I really can live with how it behaves right now.

The Confluence skin is awesome btw!

I also have a r1600 ($199 off the Shelf - couldn't resist)

Using Windows XP and DSPlayer-XBMC by tiben20 and getting 4-5% CPU on all the 720 Videos I throw at it.

For those who are interested, Here are the specs on the r1600:

Atom 230 dual core
Nvidia ION LE (9800 Nforce)
1GB Ram

only have 2 complaints:

1. The E-SATA and analog audio connectors are on the front of the unit

2. As soon as i updated the Video drivers from the stock 185 to the current revision, the HDMI pass through audio stopped working. Doesn't even show up in the audio control panel.

I have a extra copy of win7 that i may end up throwing in, but i haven't decided yet

So you have no audio through the HDMI at all?

Hey there!

Just purchased one of these awesome guys and am new to the community as well.

One thing that I did notice was that there is some dropped frames and noticeable lag on slow pans with a movie at 720p. Sometimes dropping to around 18 FPS. This was running xbmc as a app through win7 and not the standalone LIVE installation.

But with the announcement that XMBCLive 9.11 Beta1 had the option to install on a partition, I think im going to run both win7 and xbmclive.

Quote:This release uses the default debian installer, allowing much more control on the destination system, including partitioning.

Now I dont have any documentation as to how you would do this, so if anyone could provide some insight on the partition, that would be great!

I did install the new NVIDIA drivers as well as Flash 10.1. Will report back to confirm that I still have audio via HDMI.

I eventually ended up installing MPC-HC as the external player and what a difference, much much smoother!

I've been thinking about this a little bit further.

Isn't the whole point of purchasing this machine to utilize the gpu with the ION?

With that said, I will be installing xbmc live and documenting the process in retaining windows 7 as well.

Update: I installed the new nvidia drivers and flash 10.1 and still have audio via hdmi.

You are totally right.

BUT : I badly wanted to avoid using Linux if possible. I just don't like it.
Not knowing the machine neither Win7, I had to do step-by-step tests to see how the system behaved.

I kinda knew from the start that I would most likely have to use an external player and it is indeed the case.
So far with MPC-HC everything seems just fine.

I have now ordered a MCE remote to push the experience a little further.

According to this development, it seems that this extension is now supported in win7. If this works out, I believe a very large number of your problems will be solved with running xbmc within 7.

Cheers,
Anthony

It still seems pretty buggy.
I'm confident MPC-HC is more stable right now.
