Delay in playing Music Files
#1
Hi,
I have a MacMini 2Ghz and have been happily running XBMC before and after Leopard.
I connect the MacMini using SPDIF to my receiver.
Lately, probably since XBMC 9.11 (alphas and beta1), I have noticed that for Music Files Only, I have a delay of about 20-30 seconds before the song plays. Once the song plays it is fine till the next one where again it will be unresponsive for about 20-30 seconds before playing the next song.
The video play perfectly well.

The songs are stored on a NAS and loaded in XBMC using smb shares.

Log is at http://pastebin.ca/1690761

Thanks in Advance.

The error I see is "ERROR: Unable to find host: NAS", maybe something wrong in sources.xml. 20-30 seconds could be a net lookup timeout.

Thanks Davilla for the quick response. You could be right but the Movies are on the Same NAS and mounted using SMB exactly like the Music folders are.
Movies play great though.

sources.xml has different sections for video and music. you might have something funny with the section ref'ing music.

Hi Davilla,
Please see my sources.xml at http://pastebin.ca/1691439.

I also deleted sources.xml and recreated it adding the NAS share again.
Unfortunately still have the same issue. I see the same error "Unable to find host: NAS".

Secondly I installed XBMC (9.11 beta 1) on my Macbook and Music played fine from the same Network Share.

Thanks

So in sources.xml, in the following line,
<path pathversion="1">smb://NAS/Volume_1/My Media/My Music/Collection/</path>

I replaced NAS with 192.168.1.55 and it worked great.

So while its fixed my issue for now, just wondering why NAS is resolved for Video playback and not for the Music playback.

Thanks for your help though. Your comments pushed me in the right direction to workaround my problem.

Do let me know if you need any info from me.
