Good suggestion in that it solves the real issue of what the word on the main menu is trying to describe.
Visually it is a less attractive word on the main menu.

not trying to attack anyone berlan but you're being a real douche about this seeing how the word is obvious to everyone but you in this tread, not to mention every other xbmc translation uses it, windows media center, windows and ubuntu to name a few. you can dwell on it far as long as you want but it wont change the fact that this is you having a incorrect understanding of a word and thus pushing your own personal perception on other people.
let me remind you guys this is the guy whose translation i found about 80 spelling errors in. no offense berland but this discussion is just getting a bit ridiculous. |

Guys please keep this in a civilized tone, take it as a common goal to improve the current translation. Constructive criticism is what should be used.

Lets start over. The real issue is as I see it which word generalizes full-length movies (english for spillefilm?), tv-series, small clips, whatever live pictures you have stored. It also has to be compatible with its submenu. I did not see this problem clearly before arco pointed it out, so my previous posts may have been a little bit unclear.
A few weeks ago we had: "Filmer" on the main menu, "Filmer" and "Tv-serier" on its submenu. This is not good enough since we can blend the submenu into the main menu. So we need a solution. Ventech suggested: "Videoer" on the main menu, and "Filmer" and "Tv-serier" on its submenu. At least we don't use two different meanings of "Filmer" as before. I don't personally see the word "Videoer" as a generalization of "Filmer" and "TV-serier", but others might (Could for example someone claim that we could exchange Filmer and Videoer here?) I have suggested: "Filmer" on the main menu, and "Spillefilmer" and "TV-serier" on its submenu. Spiff suggested. "Videofiler" on the main menu, and "Filmer" and "TV-serier" on its submenu. "Videofiler" properly generalizes the submenu. My minor problem with it is that is long, possibly a little bit more technical than necessary for a main menu entry. Do we have more options? |

ok allow me to define.
"Spillefilmer": does not include animated film, documentaries etc. "Filmer": includes feature lengths films, shorts, stv, tv-films. does not include home-videos, porn, tv-series etc. "Videofiler": generalized concept of video as a computer file, as you said. "Videoer": in this context, on a computer, it means the same as "videofiler". |

Good, now we are getting somewhere.
It means that we (all?) agree on that Videofiler is a correct term, but that we don't like it as a main menu term(?) And Filmer+Spillefilmer might not be a good solution, I see that. Any others that might want to chip in with an opinion or a suggestion? |

Not a native norwegian (but simular enough to swedish)
i would suggest: -Videoer --Filmer --TV-Serier Filmer on main is a no go, videofiler is ok, but a bit long perhaps. but it's just my thoughts

Google translate of Videos = Videoer.
I've always considered Videoer as a generalized term for all sorts of video files, so this translate is fine for me, because under its submenu you have Filmer, TV-serier, Music Vids etc. Movies should be Filmer, as it is now. Same with TV-Shows, should stay at TV-Serier. |

i still dont quite understand your need for putting "filer" at the end. as i already stated xbmc being a computer program kinda implies files. not like anyone will be confused and think we're talking about vhs tapes..
