I'm running into problems getting video to play for mythtv. I can scroll thru all the recordings and the recording even displays thumbnails; however I can not get the video to play. After a while it says playback failed and the following is what I get from the log. I've read and reread the wiki to no avail. I've scoured these forums. I've verified that I can telnet into the mythtv server (telnet 192.168.0.103 6543). I'm running version 0.22 of mythtv. Any suggestions?

add your mythtv backend to /etc/hosts

Thanks for the quick reply.

I thought I only had to do this if I named my backend something. I'm accessing it via the IP directly.... myth://mythtv:[email protected] Should I also run a DNS? Is there a particular name I should use for /etc/hosts?

use the name of your backend myth box.

I added my server IP and name to /etc/hosts but I still can't play video. The following is from my log file. I even added the source again using the server name vice the IP. myth://mythtv:mythtv@mythBE - As before, I can see all the recorded shows with the thumbnails but when I hit play it bombs and eventually after several minutes it gives me a prompt saying payback failed. Any suggestion?
