[LIVE] ASRock 330HT help setting up WiFi?
#1
Hi Guys

Sorry about this wonder if someone could help,

I have an ASRock 330 as my main Media player in living room, connected to network by Wire, works 100% very happy (Using Latest Live Install)

So I went out and bought a ASRock 300HT for use in the bedroom, been through all sorts of hassles with this.

Win 7 - Not acceptable as not happy with External player situation,

Ubuntu - Just could not get it to work, all installed but could not get Nvidia drivers working properly and after 5 hours messing it crashed and I lost the lot

LIVE - Works like a dream, BUT as I have no wired connection to the bedroom I need to get the Built in Atheros Wireless N to work to stream from the Media NAS downstairs.

(Current solution I am using is I have an old Belkin Wireless G Gaming access point that I used to use with my old XBox on Media Centre) - As that plugs into the Ethernet port on the AsRock it works with live but being Wireless G its not really going to cut it with big HD files.

Can someone take me though this is steps simple enough for a Linux R4tard to understand!. I have putty working and can get into the Live machine with that

Any help at all would be really appreciated. (And I am sure I will also be back for advice once a driver is available for the internal IR)!

Thanks in Advance.

Hey vickyl, I'm having the exact same problem as you. I have an ASRock 300HT and am using XBMC LIVE but can't get the wireless working. Did you have any luck?

I know that the wireless works under linux because It works fine with Ubuntu 9.10

I'll let you know if i figure anything out.

Hi,

Well I have gone back to my old Belkin Wireless G Access Point/Game Adaptor left over from the old Xbox system, It seems to work fine and is even happy streaming HD stuff. I would really like to get the internal WiFi working in the 330HT, but still seem to hit a brick wall with the current Beta and Karmic, so am going to wait a while and see if the next batch of updates work any better.

Really hope now the ASRock 330 has Wifi inbuilt that maybe future versions of Live will reenable the WiFi Interface to utilise this feature, it seems crazy to disable it really as so much stuff is wirelss now and "N" is really reliable with Streaming most of the time.

Just got the same asrock and tried the above with the lateast Beta and it doesnt work... not picking anything up at all. I checked the reception by putting my eee in the same place and it picks up the signal fine! Not sure what to do... bought this coz my TV is a long way from the nearest phone socket... Sad

am using xbmc-live-9.11-b2 and my router is a BT home hub- the latest black one which has wireless-n!!!

Am downloading the stable and going to try that. Fingers crossed!

Edit: OK well that didnt work and it looked crap compared to the new build! Am going to try and troubleshoot but if not then I guess its installing ubuntu next!

crap I do use WPA so it could well be that...

Will try it tonight thanks. I'm amazed that still won't connect to an N network? ARGH!!! I bought this to stream HD stuff. Am really not happy- first the wireless seems a pig to get working, and on top of that the remote supplied with it doesnt work either! And I'm not going to buy a copy of windows 7 just for that!

sorted... takes some doing. FIrst thing- not mentioned in above, is do apt-get update and apt-get upgrade.

The stuff in the attached doesnt work exactly- you need to put this in the interfaces file:

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet managed
wpa-driver wext
wpa-ssid <your_essid>
wpa-ap-scan 2
wpa-proto RSN
wpa-pairwise CCMP
wpa-group CCMP
wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK
wpa-psk <your_hex_key> [IMPORTANT: See "WPA-PSK key generation"]!

Should be absolutely no difference to connecting to wireless-g. It depends on the security you have on your network. Turn off all security and try connecting that way. When your connected, turn back on wep/wpa.

Did you try the steps linked above?

hi.
i have to get this thread up again.
is it possible, that the wlan modul within the asrock HT is not able to use wireless draft-n under linux?
if i look for access points, i only see my draft-g network but not my draft-n.
any ideas?
