Hi All,

I am still somewhat of a Linux newb and am having trouble getting XBMC running after upgrading to Karmic. When I launch XBMC the main splash screen is displayed, then it quickly goes black then quits back to GNOME. I am unfamiliar with crash logs, but here i where it appears to go south..

I seem to be having the same problem with a clean install of mythbuntu
Ive installed 3 times now and every time same thing.
I install mythbuntu
install nvidia driver (I have a gf4 ti4200 on the machine im playing with)
then add the repositries (the svn ppa's )
update /upgrade
then i sudo apt-get install xbmc
and it installs beta 1 and upon opneing it flashes up xbmc like it should and it then back to mythbuntu desktop.
I tried installing libcurl4 but it still not working

I seem to be having the same newbie problem
I do a clean install of mythbuntu (karmic) from the downloaded iso cd
then install nvida driver 96 ( as i have a ti4200)
then the launchpad svn repositories

then sudo apt-get instal xbmc
and the logo comes up for a second or two then back to the desktop

Its probably something silly
I think it has to do with libcurl 4
I installed libcurl 4 but the the problem remains.
I hope someone has the time to have look!

i installed libcurl4 but still no joy.....
I removed the svn ppa's and changed to the std ones
i removed xbmc and reinstalled.
and its still doing it.

Same issue here. Just upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic and no luck.
I was hoping a clean install would fix it but obviously it might not.

EDIT : just reinstalled xbmc and it now works. cool.

What was your process for reinstalling xbmc, as I've tried it a few times to no avail...

hmm, you're indeed missing libcurl.so.4 by the looks of it. try fetching the dev package.

got that issue today when i was playing around with auto-remove.. Installing dev package solved it, thanks.

Install libcurl3 pkg. Don't know why isn't anymore in the dependencies
