I have the Acer Revo 1600 connected to a Denon 3808 (7.1 system) via HDMI. I am running Ubuntu 9.04 with Babylon Beta 2 and have used the Confluence and Rapier skins, both with no issues.
The Revo will not bitstream DTS-HD or True-HD.
It will decode TrueHD and pass it uncompressed via LPCM to your amp.
It will also decode DTS-HD file and pass the core of the DTS file (1.5 mbps) to your amp. The DTS-HD core is is arguably indistinguishable from the DTS-HD track. (that argument is best carried out elsewhere however)
It will play uncompressed 1080p Blu-Ray rips with no stuttering. (assuming your network supports the bandwidth required or you play from a direct-attached disk of some sort).
And finally, yes, if you want to downmix everything to stereo you can.
If you end up getting one or want to address a bunch of Revo users directly, follow this thread on AVS.
