Hi there. Ive been using xbmc on windows for a good, long while and am looking to make the move over to linux. I tried a few months ago but ran into issues getting my ATI card to work correctly so kind of just aborted and stuck with windows. My linux knowledge has increased substantially (thanks to on the job training!) and I am willing to give it another shot.
But before I do, is there a definitive list of features that are in the linux version that are not in the windows version? For example: xbmc on windows is lacking lcd/vfd support. I just want to make sure the move is worth it or if I should just stick with windows.

ATI cards are borderline useless on Linux, so unless you've got a VDPAU Compatible nVidia Card, i'd stick with Windows.

Is this the general consensus? ATI cards + linux = no joy?

Pretty much, certainly no hardware acceleration support for the moment anyway.

+1 for ati suckness. For HD, you can spend $50 on an 8400GS and be all set...

Sigh. Windows it is then for now. Wife will flip if she hears I need to get a new video card, regardless of the price.
Heres to hoping someone someday will code a way to export xbmc status to the imon vfd!

A 128mb card for VDPAU decoding 1080p? You are kidding me. I remember people having issues with 256 mb 8000 Series cards. 512mb is kinda minimum to be on the save side as far as I know.
