1. Linux Distribution: Minimal Ubuntu 9.04, NVIDIA 185.18.36-0ubuntu9
2. Architecture: x86_64 Zotac Ion Dual Core 330
3. Install Method: PPA
4. XBMC 9.11~beta2-karmic1 VPDAU on
5. Playback of Tivo created MPEGs stutters. 1080p MKV h264 plays flawlessly. AVI/MPEG4 plays flawlessly. The same MPEGs play flawlessly with deinterlacing and zoom on an old Xbox install. Same effect still happens with "Sync Playback to Display" and "Adjust Refresh Rate" off. These MPEGs are converted TY files. They are NOT raw TY files.

My Zotac-A does the same thing. I converted my video from a DirecTivo using TyTools and saved mpegs and they stutter. The only solution I have found is to convert them to .mp4 real quick. I just fire up MediaCoder, drop em in and wait a couple minutes.

Strangely, the format most people complain about, flash, seems to run just fine. Its just these Tivo/Mpeg2 files that cause problems. Edit - Another problem I have noticed with Tivo files is a weird tearing and I even see it on my desktop (i7-920). once I de-interlace the files they play fine on the 920.

Apparently the "old style MUX" in TyTool strips some or all MPEG timecode information from the TY file and this throws XBMC for a loop. I've found that by using "Multiplex (New Format) 2" instead of "Multiplex File(s)" it doesn't have the jitters and stalls that the old format has. The other converter, tytompg also does not have any problem creating proper MPEGs that XBMC can handle with ease.

I have no idea if remuxing bad MPEGs with TyTool will fix the problem. I prefer to run them through Handbrake and make them h264 MKV's anyway. They look better and they're smaller to boot.
