HD Playback?
#1
Hey guys, Thanks for all the help so far. Got another quick question for other user's out there.

Should I be able to playback H.264/MKV HD files on my HTPC?
  • CPU: Dual Core Atom 330 1.60 GHz FSB 533 MHz L2 1M with Hyper-Threading (8 Watt)
  • GPU: NVidia GeForce 9400M
  • RAM: 3GB

When I try to playback HD MKV files, the playback stutters real bad. I've been reading the DSPlayer thread regarding PureVideo GPU accelaration and I'd like to try it but I don't want to waste my time if my hardware is too puny to run HD. At the moment I'm struggling to encode (de-encode) all my HD-Blu-ray and MKV TV Shows down to Xvid so they will play back without stuttering.

Thanks again..

ION will definitely play 720p and most 1080p, but using DXVA

you'll have to check the DSplayer to see if it woks for you.
be aware that it's in an early development stage, but it's worth trying.

meanwhile, You can test your hardware capabilities by using mpc-hc , which enables DXVA in order to play HD content.

Great news! Thanks! I'll give the dsplayer a try then.

Just wanted to update this thread as the issue is now resolved, per this thread. 720p playback is flawless using NVidia CUDA technology which offloads the video processing to the GPU.
