/etc/asound.conf crashes xbmc on playback
#1
today i used a karmic x86 minimal cd to setup my zotac mag box

i followed this guide .. http://www.springydevelopment.co.uk/2009...mic-koala/ and everything is working perfectly (except for usplash .. which i asked about in a previous thread)

however, i'd like to get navigation sounds to work (via hdmi-audio) so i've seen that to get it to work you need to create a /etc/asound.conf file and add to it
Code:
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave {
pcm “hdmi”
}
}

the only problem is, when i do this, not only does it not get me navigation sounds, but it creates the problem of crashing xbmc when i try to play back a video file

relevent info: zotac mag, hdmi (w/ audio), nvidia 185 drivers, alsa (i believe apt-get installed alsa 1.0.20 but i'm not 100% sure)

not an issue anymore Smile

did some forum searching and instead of using /etc/asound.conf, i did what this guy posted here: http://imadethisdesign.blogspot.com/2009...1080p.html (uses ~/.asoundrc) and it works perfectly

hello navigation sounds Smile
