[Live] How to restart XBMCLive without reboot?
#1
Hi
Because I want to tune my keymaps I have to restart XBMCLive 9.11rc1 very often. How can this easily be done without reboot the whole system?

regards
Jarny

*Edit*
In the wiki entry about the shutdown menu I found this:
Restart: Reboots your XBOX. Browse up or down while the Restart icon is highlighted and you will have the option of restarting XBMC only.
But there is no possibility to browse up or down on the Restart icon in the confluence skin :-( Is there another trick?
Hardware:
1) PointOfView Intel Atom 330 Mainboard

sudo reboot
Use mythicalLibrarian to make a library out of your MythTV files. Leave the recording to MythTV and use XBMC as your library.

I dont know the answer but I think he do not want to reboot his computer but only want to (re)start the xbmc process.

If xbmc crashes and drops to login.

Quote:sudo service xbmc-live start

should do the trick.

cheers

Edit: If you are using xbmc-live and you just want to restart xbmc without rebooting, drop to a terminal or use ssh and type

Quote:killall xinit

xbmc should then exit and restart.

Which is a pain in the ass if you have no keyboard attached to the HTPC, or must go through another computer in order to restart XBMC. In Live 9.04, XBMC used to restart itself after a crash, why it doesn't now I have no idea. A "Restart XBMC" button in Confluence would also be nice.

If you dont have a keyboard, you could always map a button on your remote to restart xbmc (see keymap.xml). Xbmc-live usually restarts after a crash, only sometimes you have to do it manually. As for confluence having a "restart xbmc" button, i agree it would make life easier.

Thanks for the help...yeah...exactly what I needed to know...XBMC hasn't crashed on me again...but will remember this just in case. (hate Restarting the CPU when it crashes). --- Linux Uber Noob.
