weird remote control behavior
#1
hi, new to the forums and xbmc.

I have compiled xbmc on a fedora 10 system and everything is working fine. I purchased a cheap remote control and discovered it was HID, identifiead as a keyboard by linux. I set it up to work with lirc and xbmc. And all buttons work good. Now for the problem.

I have a Lircmap.xml file under my userdata. On such file I map the center button on my control to and this works fine except when playing a movie. Instead of showing the bottom bar with playback controls, I get a bar at the top showing video information and repeated presses cycles through zoom, 16:9, 14:9, normal, and custom. But I would rather have the enter button display the same option as pressing the enter key on the keyboard.

I have worked around this by assigning the <menu> tag to another button.

If your remote behaves as a keyboard (many cheap remotes do) then with the latest builds of XBMC you shouldn't need Lirc. You just add the appropriate key definitions to keyboard.xml. See the documentation on xbmcmce.sourceforge.net for details.
