UMM (Universal Media Manager), pre-alpha testing and feedback requested!
#31
I was going to check it out, but then I decided not to because of the following:
No product description
link on 3rd post in thread leads to website
went to the website
could not find any information about what it does
noone was in irc
forums require sign-up to view
I'm not signing up to find out what it does.

After all of that (way more then the average user), I still could not find out anything about what UMM does.

Post some pictures in action and a user's guide.
Use mythicalLibrarian to make a library out of your MythTV files. Leave the recording to MythTV and use XBMC as your library.

Fair enough..

Universal Media Manager (UMM)

The idea behind it - need for a unified universal (cross platform) media manager .. see http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=50388

Who's making it
- a bunch of us that created other media managers and/or other items, from concepts to code, it's been a team effort.
There's a list of the devs in the other thread, as well as on our team site, and up on sourceforge

What does it use to scrape data?
Because Nicezia rocks the house, and XBMC is beyond awesome, it's using XBMC's scrapers, as well as some custom ones we embeded.

What platforms will be supported?
Any that can run mono or .net 2.0, so Windows, Linux (Multiple flavors), OSX, as well as a device that can open and display a web page

What's in being written in?
The core and forms are being done in c# using Mono
Webui: objective j - (correct me if i'm wrong mafis90)

Why the links to the team site?
So we are not spamming the forums here, and so that things can be organized with a lot more ease (for us that are making it)

Where's the internal forum here in the xbmc forums?
After we got the team site up, it was agreed it wasn't needed any more.
Yes, it all started right here Big Grin

nobody's in irc
- pretty common, the team is all over the world and i dont' use irc

not signing in to see what it does
- no worries, there's threads here about the Unified Media Manager (now named UMM)..

What does it do?
it's a media manager for XBMC, and many other Media Centers (Media Browser, SageTv, Meedios, Freevo, etc.)

The images and user guides won't be done until the core is done, since the core needs to have the api's in place and stable to make the real end user User Interfaces (right now it's development test forms)

Are the feature of "missing episodes" that also was in "Media Info Plus" not implemented?
Edit: also i am having some problems stopping it from using "movie.nfo", "movie.tbn", "fanart.tbn" on folder level even thoug i have disabled it, i want it to use <movie name>.nfo and so on.

Change the priority of the items in the configuration. The lowest number wins, so set movie.nfo, movie.tbn, fanart.tbn to 9 or something higher then the one you want it to save as (note 99 is the max)
I'll fix the error where if it's not set to "Save this file" it's still saving it.. fixed in svn

Find missing episodes is now done by right clicking on the showname.

The search string that it forms comes from advanced.xml .. prepend = what to put at the begining, append is at the end.. I'm not sure if we documented all the string options for that or not.

if you want to google search for the episode when clicking on the link..
<Prepend>http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&amp;q=</Prepend>
<Append></Append>

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<AdvancedOptions xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
  <Rss>
    <Prepend>http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&amp;q=</Prepend>
    <Append></Append>
    <IncludeSeriesName>true</IncludeSeriesName>
    <IncludeTitle>true</IncludeTitle>
    <IncludeSeasonNumber>true</IncludeSeasonNumber>
    <IncludeEpisodeNumber>true</IncludeEpisodeNumber>
    <Format>%seriesName%+-+%seasonNumber%x%2digitEpisodeNumber%+-+%title%</Format>
  </Rss>
</AdvancedOptions>

you'll need to encode url's it xml format ..
http://coderstoolbox.net/string/
select xml and encode .. paste url in top box, setting that goes into the advanced xml file is the one that will appear in the bottom box

so
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=
becomes
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&amp;q=

Please give svn build 573 a try and see if it's working correctly with the "save this file" options.

You can install to the same folder as 563+ (no database or config changes have been made in 573)

573 is up in the bleeding edge builds thread in the UMM forums
it also fixes a few linux crashes and some image handling under linux when connecting to the server (i.e. remote client mode)

I have also changed it so that the pre-alpha forum, and thus all downloads, are available without login.

AGAIN an media manager that doesnt know how to handle tv shows with only one season..
but UMM doesnt even reconize a show that i manually created the nfo's for (XBMC finds it just fine)
why is EMM the only media manager that shows them without problems (now they just need tv show editing and scraping)

Explain please, as I can't fix something with only a "it don't work" description.

If you truly want it fixed, provide as much detail as you can, and paste the debug log.

It's not a bug, more like a missing feature i think.
I've got several tv-shows with more then one season, and i have them scraped with MIP, UMM displays them just fine.
but i've also got several tv-shows that have only one season (show ended after 1 season) and neither MIP or UMM displays or scrapes them.
the only .nfo i get is tvshow.nfo no additional nfo's for each episode (required for displaying in XBMC)

here are some of those 1 season tv-shows.

- 1 litre of tears
- Berserk
- Fullmetal Alchemist
- Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
- Mei-chan no Shitsuji
- Zettai Kareshi

Just did a quick test with Berserk and it worked fine, so there's something different about how I tested it and how it's working for you.

What language do you have it set to?

I created a folder called "Berserk" and put a file called "test.s1e1.avi" in there, loaded tv shows in UMM, clicked on Berserk and then the "Scrape" button. It downloaded the info (too awhile, so gotta look into that part) but loaded all the data.. At first it didn't show the updated episode data (again i'll check that out), so i checked Berserk and clicked the auto-process button, then all data was updated and working.

So how did you do it and what did you run into? What's your folder and file structure look like?

Hey Fekker,

I tried what you said, but again the only .nfo it creates is the tvshow.nfo.
no 'Berserk_s0e01.nfo' did it create that one for you ?
and if it worked for you, it also displays the different episodes in the left column after selecting the tvshow?

ow, and language is set to english.

ahh.. now i see what the issue is, it's ignoring season 0 for some reason when it's loading the video files in the tv show folder, i'll get that fixed up.

but yeah, it should just show all the files that it associated with the show, it's designed to load any file that is in the included extensions for shows (in config) that it can parse a season and episode number from.

Here's the latest build of UMM (Pre-Alpha)

SVN Build: 1.0.0.574 - fixed season 0 not being loaded
I've uploaded the 574 build to Sourceforge

Thanks Fekker, this version works Smile
though it doesnt scrape much information for some reason, for most of my single season shows it doesnt scrape the plot or the image (episode screenshot) eventhough both are available on thetvdb.

but allready a great help! Big Grin

Can you provide examples (i.e. show name and episode filename), i'll see what's what with the data side.

thanks
