[MAC] Broadcom Crystal HD Mini-PCIe Card in a Intel (GMA) Mac Mini?
#46
Here's a screen cap if anyone's interested. I did manage to get one video to work. I could provide mediainfo output for working/non-working files if that would help someone.

Mine does the same thing after 5-10 minutes of playback of any content using the CrystalHD or not.

In my brief experience videos with 6 channel audio ALL seem to behave like this.

do we need to make a ticket for this or are the developers already after this one?

Curious to see when this will be fixed. Please let us all know when it works.

So there's a pretty sweet guide for installing and configuring the appleTV to work with the Crystal HD. I was wondering if anybody had a similar lear step by step guide for getting it up and running on a mac mini??

I'm not sure if the author is updating it, but video playback with CrystalHD is still very alpha. Currently it only plays about 70% of my collection. It's hard to find out how progress is going too. You have to troll these forums looking. I wish there was a progress blog somewhere, but I haven't found one.

It appears that this thread has died. Does anyone know of a progress blog or anything that I could check regularly on how CrystalHD support is coming?

Hope it helps someone out, or at least prevents you from making my mistakes!

Enjoy.

Thanks for the guide. Going to try this maybe this weekend. Hopefully I'll have some positive results to report.

I just updated it with some impressions of the latest (jan 27) nightly build.

It has improved quite a bit, the excessive frame dropping that could occour after a few minutes and just get worse the longer it goes on now takes a lot longer to happen. And when it happens it sorts it out by itself after a while. It's not satisfactory yet, but definitly better than before.

However, I'm a demoscene fan (and coder), and those productions should always be viewed at full frame rate (60 Hz) and to my dissapointment some of my 720p60 movies are really slow with the Crystal HD, with CPU rendering it performs much better - but still drop frames.

Here's the movie in question for download in case somebody else want to test, and perhaps explain why this particular one make the Cyrstal HD choke so bad.

PS. You should donate a little to Scott Davilla to encourage further development, details are at the bottom of http://code.google.com/p/crystalhd-for-osx/

Not home so can't play but mediainfo reports 1000fps Smile

1280 x 720 progressive [email protected], cabac with 4 ref frames. This should play fine.

PS. Thanks for the donation, you were actually the very first Smile

This may be a little (or a LOT) off topic. But when i download a new nightly build, and basically overwrite the older files on my mini, all my skin settings, library settings etc will remain correct?
