Windows Home Server Issues with XBMC CD Ripping/Playing
#1
Evening Everyone,

I have an Acer Aspire Revo 3600 machine running Windows Home Server OS (based on windows server 2003 small business), with XBMC 9.11 installed. XBMC seems to run fine but am having major troubles playing CD's / Ripping CD's. I am using an external USB LG DVD drive for this.

If i try and play a CD nothing happens (IE no music is played) or if i try and rip a disk the program hangs.

I have tried different CD's, but they play fine in WMP and any other program for that matter.

I have a few interesting errors in the log which il post here:

Any Ideas?

Im having the exact same problem. Also running an Acer Aspire Revo, however I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Most notable are these errors:
ERROR: Win32DllLoader::Load: Unable to load MSVCP90.dll (126)
DEBUG: Dll MSVCP90.dll was not found in path
ERROR: LoadLibrary('MSVCP90.dll') failed
ERROR: Win32DllLoader::Load: Unable to load MSVCR90.dll (126)

I have read the threads regarding these dll's being distributed into dirs other than the "winsxs" dirs. However when I do a search of my drive there are only 2 copies of each, and they are both in the "winsxs" dirs.

DVD's play fine

XBMC will not rip (or even play for that matter) any copy protected CD. Which is why it will play in iTunes and media player but not XBMC. Just rip using one of those two and XBMC will pick it up.

Anyone know a hack to get around this issue?

Ignore the msvc?90 error for now. We rely on opensource tools to access the drive and this won't work with all media.
@rulitz: your problem could be that you run with restricted rights. Windows won't give us raw access to the drive somehow.

My user is in the Administrators group. I have also "run as Administrator" with the same result...no playing or ripping of CD's.

I dont know if it has anything to do with anthing, but both the OP and I are using external USB DVD Drives.

WHS does not natively include audio drivers, this may be your problem.

Don't have a external drive for testing just saw recently that there are problems with a restricted user.
Don't think that we need special audio drivers as we're opening the device in raw mode afaik.

I use an external usb sound card. So have audo drivers installed. Its possible that it could be a user restriction on WHS.

But i have made another user account and made it a member of administrators group. Still same issue

The issue is not elevated privlidges. You will notice that DVD's play fine. All USB CDROM drives fail under ALL versions of Windows to play or rip CD's. I have already asked support and posted debug logs, with no response except the random "Hey we will need your debug logs" which is posted in the first post here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=66479

Sigh... I guess we will just need to find another solution.
