I'm almost positive you can get it to work for all the general things with a lot of work to the XML files - the only thing I would suspect you won't be able to get to work is wake from suspend - which is awfully picky (for instance wake from suspend will not work with the original XBX DVD Dongle and any remote due to limitations on the dongle itself). Although suspend isn't a huge deal, the Acer Revo's yearly operating cost is $7.77 last I heard. Just be prepared for a lot of work in the XMLs. You'll probably have to set it up as a joypad and not a remote.

Yet another question on remotes! I'm thinking about using the Boxee Box remote which is described here:
http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/01/05/qwe...ox-remote/

It sounds almost perfect, the strong points being:
- it is RF. I know everyone loves IR Harmony's, but the only RF remote I ever owned was phenomenal and I would love to have another
- it comes with a USB dongle (most RF remotes terminate with an IR blaster)
- it will work with Linux

Now for the bad part. I cannot see any way to use this to control the Power or the Volume! My plan is to use this as my only remote. I have only two devices, my htpc running xbmc and a LG television. I will connect the htpc to the television via a serial cable, and can write some scripts to forward commands to the TV. The only commands I need to handle are Power, and Volume - should be simple.
The problem is there are no buttons for it! Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can use the Boxee remote to handle tv power/volume? I could just hijack a few buttons from the QWERTY side - but then they won't function when I actually go to type something. Plus, having to hit "Q" to turn the volume up will not have a very high WAF.
Why doesn't this remote have a few extra buttons on it (Power, Volume, Mute)? Darn you Boxee/DLink!

I hate to say it, but the exact problem you mention (the "how can I control the volume/power on a different device than my XBMC box in a way with a high WAF factor") is EXACTLY why so many here are such big Harmony fans.

If you are committed to the Boxee remote, using the keyboard side is not your only hope- you can always remap up and down on the remote to be volume (this is what the Mac XBMC does with the Apple remote). I don't know what to tell you to do about power though....

It has just the right buttons to use XBMC. Unfortunately, it does not have enough buttons to replace your other remotes Sad There are no power buttons (need one for TV, one for HTPC) there are no volume buttons.
So even if you only ever use XBMC and never switch inputs to regular TV (or a blu-ray player, or a XBOX, etc.) - you still need an additional remote for power/volume. Also - no IR on the Boxee remote. That means even if it did have power/volume buttons, they wouldn't work with your TV anyway.
I'm hopeful the Tivo Slide will be better, but haven't looked at it in enough detail yet to know - though it's retail now, so all the info is out there.

What are these links for? I get a white screen saying "not authorized to access" or something like that. Is it because I'm not in the US?

They were links to FCC specs on the remote, but I can't see them now either...

Do you have to sit sideways when using the qwerty functionsLaugh

It would seem to be aimed in the wrong direction when using the keyboard.

Damn remote won't turn the boxee on.
DAMN.
This would make the remote impressive.
Boxee missed the boat on no "Power On" from the remote.

Impressive list of Features and Limitations.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1265799

Limitations:
  • # RF remote control won't integrate in universal remote setups (although speculation exists for support of USB IR adapters).
  • # Cannot turn box on via IR remote, turning it off via IR remote will require a key press sequence so might not be mappable for universal remotes.
  • # No scraping of local artwork and .nfo
  • # No ability to centrally manage any kind of media database for multiple boxee boxes.
  • # Does not break out media shares by content type (movies, TV shows, home movies, etc)... appears to rely on IMDB entirely for scraping.
  • # No content partnerships announced.
  • # Cannot play DRM protected files.
  • # No support for USB attached optical drive
  • # No support for TV tuner or direct DVR functionality
  • # No standardized SDK for easier application development
  • # Boxee delayed the introduction of the Boxee Box, which was originally slated to go on sale in Q1 2010 to November of 2010 due to concerns that the software was not in a good enough slate for release due to performance issues with Tegra 2. This has led to concerns about the software quality on the final shipping product or that there might be large deviation between what is seen in the Beta for use on PC and Mac and what the set top box version will be like

The remote turns on my Boxee Box without problem, so I'm not sure where you got your information from. This includes from sleep mode and from being powered down. I was surprised at this because I think I read in various forums and previews that there would be no remote power on capability. But, like I said, it works for me.

Someone tried? It has been for sale some days right now.

Really love the design of the remote but i'm still undecided to buy it.
